Khaki pants

The boys have always worn sweatpants or knit pants with elastic waist. I always think that no kids would want to wear jeans or dress pants because sweatpants or knit pants are just so much more comfortable. Yes, my boys even wear sweatpants to school on picture day, to a restaurant when we eat out, and even weddings.

Now that M is getting older, I’m starting to think that maybe sometimes he needs a pair of nice khaki pants. Okay, who am I kidding? Of course he’ll never need a pair of nice khaki pants. He’ll do fine with his sweatpants. However, E has a pair of khaki pants with a hole in front of one of the pockets. It was too wasteful to throw out. Charities now have pretty high standards so I don’t even bring them anything with stains on, so forget about pants with a hole on. The next best solution is a pair of pants for M.

I used the pattern from Ottobre 01/2009 Taku linen pants, two back pockets and several pockets in the front. I was able to get enough fabric to make the two back pockets. The best thing about these pants is that they have an elastic waist, which I think M would appreciate, since he never owned a pair of pants with a button and zipper… He was very pschyed to see his new pants. “Wow, they look like they’re hard to make,” he commented and was very willing to try out the pants for me.

More leggings

R has outgrown most of her leggings/pants due to her growing belly. I’ve made 3 more pairs for her with some soft cotton knit. These are from the same pattern I have used for the previous leggings except that I made these shorter than before and it looks like they’re too short for R.

It’s Spring and I’m still making Winter clothes…

On the first day of Spring, we were greeted with a little bit of snow in New York City… It was a surprise because it started as I was walking to the bus stop in the morning and I was thinking to myself that it couldn’t be snow… Anyway, we’ve had some warmer days since then but it’ll be once again below freezing tonight.

In a way it’s good news to me since I just managed to finish yet another Nasta dress (Ottobre 04-2008-03 Nasta Pinafore Dress). I know, I know… The last one was supposed to be the last one, but I cut this one at the same time that I did the last one. (Yes, it took that long for me to finish.) This one is made with a very comfy pink velour. Yes, it’s that pastel pink I try to avoid, but I do like the pattern… It’s something I purchased a long time ago from a fabric co-op. I used a deep red cotton rib knit for the binding. The pictures show it as brighter than it really is. I think I cut out 2 pieces of the front so it looks weird and from the picture you can’t even see the snaps.

Okay, it’s almost spring and I just managed to finish another Nasta pinafore dress in a heavy red fleece with the same orange/red/brown ribbing I used for the last one. I’m lucky that the weather in New York is so unpredictable. Chances are we’ll still have many freezing days to come that R can still wear this. This time I made size 86 but widened the body. I was sure R was smaller when I cut out this dress. Today she tried it on and it just fits her!
